I feel like you have captured the aesthetic perfectly the deep contemplation of what is happening to our greatest gift, much needed words to move through these moment. Thanks, Holly. Xx
Feeling the familiarity of the experience with this one, Holly! This has me remembering summers in Montana and the constant forest fires. It is eerie. The air is too thick to breathe and the sun glowing with its own fiery light. Apocalyptic, for sure! Awful knowing that someone is enduring such a hot and suffocating experience. There is that knot in the stomach as you hope that people are out of the fires path and that it doesn't reach your own home. Prayers for all affected. 💜🙏🏼
Here in southwest Michigan, the color was peach one evening, then dirty car wash water, and now it’s chalk and cement. The birds have also gone silent. Thanks for this excellent poem that really sums up the feelings we’re all having. I just wonder if it ever ends!
This has been tough to endure, and worse than any of the years I've been on the North Shore. I'm grateful for todays rain, the safety of friends, and some distance from the flames.
So awful indeed... A poem both wise and real and like the sound of fear poured out from a heart who has been engulfed by the flames and the horror. Such a wonderful write. So awful though.
It is awful and it changes your perspective so fast, kind of like my cancer diagnosis did years ago. Thank you for feeling the pain of this one and lack of a happy ending.
Thank you @Carole Roseland for restacking
Thank you @Kelly C. Ballantyne for restacking 🧡
I am loving the .25 inch of rain that just came!
ME TOO! Don’t stop
"the sky, the color and thickness of butter,
begs the whittler to grab his knife,
to carve a hole for summer to breathe."
Brilliant! Beautiful words, Holly. Y'all stay safe and healthy.
Thanks so much Deb-I think that is my favorite part too. 💛. We just got some rain and now we need it to rain all day. 🙏
I hope you get a good soaking. We need it too. Big drought here.
I wish Texas could share with the rest of us!
When I first saw our skies in central NH suddenly turn amber I was astounded, and then I smelled the smoke...astonishing!
Both truths, scary!
Powerful. We’ve been through it here, about 7 years ago. Awful and awesome.
This is becoming the norm but this year is the worst we’ve experienced.
I live in upstate NY and you described our skies yesterday perfectly!
Thanks, I wish this wasn’t the case 😢
You do have a way with words, Holly! These events and scenes you described are still vivid in my memory. Thankfully, the sky has changed.
Thanks Tony; hope you are feeling better each day!

Hey Steph and thanks for being here and commenting 💛🌻💛
I love how you found beauty without looking away from the tragedy ❤️
That’s it, exactly 🌻

We are all wondering, it’s dangerous and sad. You are right, the birds have gone silent 😢
It’s a little better here today, with actual sun, occasional blue in the air, but still deathly quiet.
Wow
Love you E 💚💚💚
Beautifully written Holly!

Me too Scott! I almost cried when I heard rain on our metal roof, hope we get more!
Powerful! Love the new title and "for summer to breathe." Genius! May we leave this horrific smokey world behind soon.
Thanks Ann 💚💚💚
